Vegan Chili Dog recipe

Ha, “recipe.” That’s hilarious. What I really meant to say was, “Go out and purchase these items and put them together.”

And what are of those items? Here we go:

I personally like smart dogs. They’re the ones that remind me the most of the hot dogs I grew up with. On the other hand, there are always new and exciting vegan hot dogs entering the market and others I just haven’t gotten around to trying. Anything that says vegan hot dogs on it will do. You can find them at virtually any grocery store these days. We usually make them in the microwave, but this time, we made them on the burner. It affects the texture more than the taste, I would say, so you’ll need to experiment and see what you prefer.

Hot dog buns may be trickier, particularly if you have other dietary goals beyond being vegan. I’m pretty sure all of whole foods hot dog buns are marked vegans these days, and most store brand hot dog buns are vegan as well – but they just have a lot of extra preservatives and stuff like that on the ingredients list.

We like cheese on our chili cheese dogs, because, you know, cheeses is in the name. Like hot dogs, there’s tons of choices. Whole foods 365 brand vegan sliced cheese is probably your best bet in terms of value, but again, like hot dogs, there are many options.

Now we’re coming down to it. Maybe there are other vegan chili options, I’m not sure, but boy, this is a game changer:

Man, this stuff is tasty. Gardein coming through again, this time with their plant-based chili with beans. It’s just what we wanted. Now I will say that the beans in our can were much more pulverized than what you’re seeing on the label, but it did not affect the taste. It is delicious.

So that’s the vegan chili cheese dog assignment. Assemble these items and have yourself a tasty meal!
