I finally wandered into Uptown Coffee Co on Pleasant Ave in Maywood, NJ. This casual coffee shop has a number of vegan options and deceptively comfy chairs.
Today (I’m not sure if this is always the case), they have two vegan muffin options and a vegan roasted tomato soup. Pretty nice! They also have a number of non-dairy milks, including my personal favorite, soy.
I had a soy latte that was quite lovely. Freshly ground, all that good stuff. Lots of folks were chilling and they were doing a steady business on a mid Monday afternoon, so it’s probably not just me that’s digging this place.

Besides the roasted tomato soup, there are other rotating soup of the day options:
Pasta Fagioli- vegan
Vegetable- vegan gf
Lentil-vegan gf
They ALWAYS have vegan baked goods options – there are usually 2 to 3 choices:
Blueberry muffin
Pistachio muffin
Pb chocolate chip cookie
Pistachio cookie
Seasonal cookie( pumpkin, gingerbread, snickerdoodle)
And there are some Grab n go items, too:
pb&j sandwiches
Dairy free yogurt with granola
Apples & pb ( seasonal)
Fruit salad ( seasonal)
They also offer peanut butter toast with banana – the menu says “with honey,” but this can be excluded.
Learning all the vegan options available at Uptown Coffee Co is generally exciting, but this is also great for my specific needs as I think my kid would be happy with a lot of these options!
